Filming begins on new Kay Mellor drama Girlfriends

Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey), Miranda Richardson (Mapp & Lucia) and Zoë Wanamaker (Mr SelfridgeMy Family) will star as childhood friends Linda, Sue and Gail who find themselves thrown back into each others lives after the sudden death of Linda's husband Micky.

Phyllis Logan, who plays Linda, said of the new role, "I’m thrilled to be part of Girlfriends, written by the wonderful Kay Mellor and to be working not only with her but the stellar cast that has been assembled.

ITV commissions Vanity Fair adaptation

Vanity Fair tells the story of Becky Sharpe, a young woman attempting to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English Society.

Set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, Becky climbs all the way to the court of King George IV, via the Battle of Waterloo, breaking hearts and losing fortunes as she goes.

Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) will play Thackeray’s heroine Becky Sharpe.

Monday: Growing Up With Cancer

BBC One, 7.30pm

The lives of three young cancer patients are explored in this documentary as part of BBC One’s Our Lives series.

Growing Up With Cancer looks at the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit Unit in Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children where young people find a retreat at one of the most difficult times of their lives.

ITV commissions Hatton Garden drama

Hatton Garden will depict the jewellery and cash burglary which took place in the heart of London’s diamond district, which was carried out by an elderly gang of career criminals across the Easter Bank Holiday weekend in April 2015.

The drama tells the inside story of how the men pulled off the heist which was considered in a league of its own in terms of scale and ambition.

The level of planning, preparation and organisation that was required to pull off the crime to get into the vault of the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company was one like no other. 

John Simm and Adrian Lester to star in new ITV thriller Trauma

Trauma focuses on two fathers Jon Allerton (Adrian Lester) and Dan Bowker (John Simm), whose lives collide when Bowker's teenage son is fatally stabbed, dying in Allerton's trauma unit. 

Bowker blames trauma surgeon Allerton for his son's tragic death and embarks on a desperate hunt for justice he struggles to deal with his loss, with Allerton as his target. 

As Bowker unravels every aspect of Allerton's life, it poses the question: is his grief overpowering his judgment or is there more to Allerton than meets the eye?

First look at second series of Victoria

The teaser clip shows Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) at the Christening of the couple’s first child, Princess Victoria, known as Vicky.

The second series will again be written by creator and executive producer Daisy Goodwin, and viewers will see Queen Victoria face new challenges both at home and abroad.

Victoria will be figuring life out as a working mother, balancing her responsibilities as both parent and Queen. However, Prince Albert is still struggling to find a role for himself alongside his powerful wife as she returns to her duties.

May & Corbyn face the public on Sky News and Channel 4

The special programme, to be broadcast on Monday 29th May, has been announced as part of Sky’s coverage of the upcoming General Election, and will feature the first leader interviews of the campaign in front of a live audience.  

In the 90-minute programme, Islam will begin with an audience Q&A before Paxman steps in to interview the respective party leader, before the process is repeated with the other party leader. .

ITV2 commissions spy spoof Action Team

Action Team is a spoof spy action series following the exploits of a top-secret team of special agents working for the British government and tasked with saving the world.

Written by Tom Davis (Murder in Successville, Plebs) and James De Frond, this new comedy will star Davis alongside Jim Howick (Broadchurch), Kayode Ewumi (#HoodDocumentary) and Laura Checkley (Bridget Jones’s Baby).
