Watch what happened at our latest event, where TV bosses discussed whether bringing back old TV formats shows that we're running out of ideas, or if some shows are just worth giving a make over for new audiences.

RTS London learns how AI could shape broadcasting

Very broadly, AI is teaching computers to “learn” from data without being programmed (rather as humans do) –  so-called “machine learning”. 
 
Ian Whitfield, founder of Virtual AI and ex­ ITV director of technology, explained how his company’s systems enhance the automation of back-office processes that are fundamental to broadcast TV: “In channel scheduling, many of the repetitive and time­consuming tasks can be done by robots.”

“It’s important to demystify television and make you realise that TV is a great place to work…

“As a second generation British-born Indian no one in my family had ever worked in the media before. Of my siblings two are lawyers and one is an environmental scientist.

“Ideally my folks would have liked me to be a good Asian doctor but I’m afraid I wasn’t bright enough. I was quite musical but my parents didn’t want me to do anything that was to do with the creative businesses.  

ITV Studios to produce new kids show for Netflix

Robozuna will premiere on CITV early in 2018, before being made available on the SVoD service across the world. 

The show follows 14-year-old Ariston and his robot sidekick Mangle as they battle evil robot centurions to free a nation from the tyrannical empire.

Steve Green, Executive Vice President of Kids Content and Distribution for ITV Studios Global Entertainment said the show combines "cinematic production values" with "warm and relatable characters and action-packed storylines, as well as a rich and diverse play pattern".

Channel 5 commissions Freddie Mercury and Karen Carpenter docs

Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender Revealed and Karen Carpenter: Goodbye to Love will both be produced by ITV Studios' indie Potato. 

Each film will be 120 minutes long and will feature archive footage, as well as one-to-one interviews, and scripted dramatisations based on firsthand accounts of the singers' lives.

Freddie Mercury rose to fame as the frontman and lyricist of rock band Queen, and counted Princess Diana as one of his close friends, he passed away in 1991 after battling with AIDS.

Final preparations underway for RTS Programme Awards 2016

Ant and Dec are nominated for the Entertainment Performance award and will battle it out against The Last Leg's Adam Hills and A League Of Their Own's Jack Whitehall. The Last Leg also receives a nomination for Entertainment programme where it will complete against Release the Hounds and The Graham Norton Show.
