BBC Two to explore black history of Britain

A Black History of Britain will look at the long relationship between the British Isles, Africa, North America and the Caribbean.

The series will use new genetic and genealogical research alongside original records and interviews to build a new national narrative.

“This series will unveil a new type of black British history, because to me black history is everyone’s history,” said Olusoga. “It's the long, often tragic and always surprising story of Britain’s relationship with Africa and her peoples.”

Celebrities head to India for an exotic retirement

The film sees a group of British pensioners retire to India, where they move into a dilapidated hotel and try to adapt to life in a new environment.

In the BBC Two series The Real Marigold Hotel, actor Miriam Margolyes, dancer Wayne Sleep, actor Sylvester McCoy, comedian Roy Walker, chef Rosemary Shrager, darts champion Bobby George, singer Patti Boulaye and former news reader Jan Leeming will spend three weeks in India.

Morgana Robinson brings new impressions show to BBC Two

Impressions of Fame will take a comic look at the lives of celebrities on and off the screen, as Robinson couples new impressions of Joanna Lumley, Gregg Walace and Miranda Hart, along with the acts she has become known for such as Eastenders actors Danny Dyer and Natalie Cassidy.

Robinson, who previously demonstrated her skills in Channel 4's The Morgana Show, will be joined by ‘big name’ actors, comedians and guest stars who will play the friends and colleagues of celebrities.

TV sound engineers are used to keeping a low profile. Only if something goes amiss do the people responsible for the sound emerge from the shadows. Paradoxically, minus the sound track a TV show would be unwatchable.  

This point was made by the two veterans delivering an RTS Craft Skills Masterclass on sound, Chris Ashworth, Production Sound Mixer, and Mike Felton, Sound Designer.

“You only get shouted at when things go wrong,” Felton observed. “Sound is a masochist’s job. Basically you do it for your own satisfaction.”

Welsh broadcast media at risk?

RTS Wales joined the Institute of Welsh Affairs to host a lively debate on the future of Welsh broadcasting at Glyndŵr University in Wrexham at the end of October.

In a pre-recorded video message, the Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Ken Skates, expressed concern about the weakening position of broadcast media in Wales.

The RTS Centre’s administrator, Hywel Wiliam, gave a brief overview of the key features of the current communications market.
