Sky commissions impressionist satire Re-Dub!

The impressionists will re-voice a variety of the latest clips from the realms of sport, news, politics and entertainment. The show will quite literally be putting words in the mouths of a host of famous faces.

"Re-Dub! is a gloriously silly and funny take on the world of news and celebrity from the mouth of Alistair McGowan and a host of brilliant mimics accompanying real world footage. We can promise a fun-packed half hour of pure joy,” said Phil Edgar-Jones, Sky’s Head of Entertainment.

Morgana Robinson brings new impressions show to BBC Two

Morgana Robinson as Russell Brand

Impressions of Fame will take a comic look at the lives of celebrities on and off the screen, as Robinson couples new impressions of Joanna Lumley, Gregg Walace and Miranda Hart, along with the acts she has become known for such as Eastenders actors Danny Dyer and Natalie Cassidy.

Robinson, who previously demonstrated her skills in Channel 4's The Morgana Show, will be joined by ‘big name’ actors, comedians and guest stars who will play the friends and colleagues of celebrities.

Is the impressions show dead?

"How many impressionists do we see on TV these days? Hardly any... You find some on the cruise ships entertaining the 'blue rinse brigade.'" That is the damning view of Comedy Store founder Don Ward, who says he "can't stand" impressionists.

A decade ago, the impressions genre was in rude health. From political satire on Dead Ringers, to celebrity caricatures on Bo' Selecta!, there was an impressions show to suit almost every taste.
