Winners of RTS 2019 East Awards announced

RTS East Awards 2019

BBC East’s The Galaxy Britain Built, which celebrated the behind-the-camera contribution of British film craft to the first Star Wars movie, was named best Factual Programme.

Three BBC East journalists won awards: Richard Westcott took the News and Current Affairs Feature award; Robby West was named best On-screen Journalist; and Jo Thewlis picked up the New Talent On Screen award. Matt Wildash took home the Post-production Craft Skills award.

The awards also saw the launch of two Industry Awards to recognise the work of individuals in behind-the camera roles at the start of their television careers. 

Both awards went to ITV Cymru Wales employees: production specialist Ellis Clark received the Newcomer award and journalist Sian Thomas, the Industry Breakthrough award. The latter prize is for TV talent with a minimum of two years’ experience in the industry and at least one on-screen credit.

Nominations for the RTS Television Journalism Awards 2019 announced

The BBC leads the way with 24 nominations overall across 16 of the 20 categories, followed by Channel 4 with 12 nominations.

The prestigious awards will be presented at a ceremony hosted by celebrated British newsreader and television presenter Mary Nightingale on the 27th February at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

The awards, which span both news and current affairs, seek to recognise creative and excellent journalism by organisations whose broadcasts are transmitted on a UK-based platform or who create online video content from a UK production base.

RTS Cymru Awards 2019: Shortlisted Jury Nominations Announced

For this first time this year, RTS Wales has introduced two new industry awards to run alongside the annual student awards, with the event rebranded as the RTS Cymru Awards.

The two new categories are:

  • Industry Newcomer Award
  • Industry Breakthrough Award

Nominated by employers, both awards are intended to recognise and reward rising new talent. 

Nominations for RTS Craft & Design Awards 2018 announced

The prestigious awards will be presented at a ceremony hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen (Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown) on the 26th November at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

The jury had some very tough decisions to make, and we are very much looking forward to awarding the winners on November 26th.”
