Some 130 guests attended the ceremony at Norwich University of the Arts, which was hosted by BBC One Look East presenter Stewart White and ITV Anglia Tonight presenter Becky Jago.
Whiteley, who works on the BBC One regional current affairs strand Inside Out East, was named Best On Screen Personality, while the same channel’s Look East – Norwich reporters, Fox and Milner, were the Television Journalist of the Year and Best New Talent, respectively.
Chaired by Philip Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts, the awards recognise the best audiovisual work created by students across the UK and Republic of Ireland at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Awards are judged in six categories – Animation, Comedy & Entertainment, Drama, Factual, News and Short Feature.
At a ceremony hosted by BBC One Inside Out North East & Cumbria presenter Chris Jackson, the winning teams received trophies and certificates from the RTS North East and the Borders Centre.
The senior winners were Hartlepool Sixth Form College’s Ely King, who took the Entertainment award for Goner and Stratford upon Avon College’s Alex Eves, whose film, Bloom, won the Drama prize.
The Award recognises excellence in broadcast technology and is intended to advance education in the science, practice, technology and art of television and its allied fields. As part of the award, Gray receives an all-expenses paid trip to the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.
Gray was chosen to receive the award from among some of the best young engineers and technologists working in the UK today by a panel of experts, chaired by Digital Media Consultant Terry Marsh.
The Royal Television Society West of England Awards in association with Evolutions Bristol took place at the Bristol Old Vic on Sunday 19th March with a gala ceremony hosted by Countryfile’s Anita Rani.
Guests included Nick Knowles and Mark Millar from DIY SOS, writer, chef and broadcaster Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, CBBC favourites Andy Day and Naomi Wilkinson, broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby and actor Susan Wokoma (Crazyhead).

The CDN Awards are designed to celebrate diversity and acknowledge outstanding work both on and off-screen.
The awards provide a great opportunity to highlight some of the most creative, diverse programming on air over the last two years and showcase exciting breakthrough talent or initiatives.
