When he sat down in Cambridge for a discussion about the vexed question of impartiality in television news presenters, Piers Morgan was clearly still licking his wounds from his abrupt departure in 2021 from ITV’s Good Morning Britain. He was quick off the mark, offering a “hypothetical” scenario:
Impartiality has been a bedrock of the UK’s broadcast news landscape for a century. But for many, it feels like the tide is turning. The lines between the personal and professional, between news and opinion, and between journalists, commentators, politicians and ordinary people are blurring. Live on air, news presenters have to make split second decisions.

From the 6th January the morning line-up will see Good Morning Britain be extended by half an hour from 6am until 9am, bringing viewers a mix of breaking news, the latest showbiz stories and exclusive interviews every week day.
Lorraine will then be on from 9am to 10am, before This Morning starts – 30 minutes earlier – from 10am to 12:30pm.
Loose Women will then air from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, ending seven and half hours of live TV all filmed at the Television Centre in White City.
Ant and Dec will return to reside over a new group of famous faces as they endure the Australian outback.
Across several gruelling weeks, the celebs will face the dreaded Bushtucker Trials and the chance to inherit the crown from 2018’s King of the Jungle Harry Redknapp.
The series will be followed by a new series of I’m A Celebrity…Extra Camp on ITV2, presented by Joel Dommett, Emily Atack and Adam Thomas.
Together, the three hosts will get the inside scoop on life inside the jungle and share lively discussions with special guests.

Piers Morgan: I used to run a daily paper. And the whole point of it was that, every morning, if you’re running a newsroom with 400 people, you have to get them going with your opinions.
So I think it was always in my DNA to be hugely opinionated about absolutely everything. I try to work myself into indignant rages on most subjects.
