From writing hit show Philomena to co-writing and executive producing Cilla and Mrs Biggs, Jeff Pope has had a successful career in the media.

He started out in television by working as a researcher at ITV's London Weekend Television in 1983. Years later he became Head of Factual Drama at ITV Studios. 

In 2007 he won a BAFTA in screenplay for See No Evil: The Moors Murders. 

At this week's RTS Student Masterclasses he told eager television students that dramas tend to be re-written about fifteen times. 

The BBC is set to air a two-hour live theatrical broadcast Live from Television Centre, the first since its former HQ was decommissioned in 2013.

Sky Sports is to broadcast extended highlights of 212 Premier League games, starting next season. 

It means viewers will be able to watch games and extended highlights for the first time ever on catch up.

Sky Sports Managing Director Barney Francis said: “Sky Sports has never been in a stronger position with this deal cementing our position as the first choice for sports fans.”

In a drama series first, ITV's Victoria will focus on the life of the Queen, played by Jenna Coleman.

It's being produced by the broadcaster's recent acquisition Mammoth Screen, makers of BBC One's Poldark. 

“This epic series is a chance to see the Victorian age through the eyes of the Queen herself for the first time," ITV's Director of Drama, Steve November, told the RTS.

From writing about what happens in a fictional five star luxury hotel to artificial intelligence, Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley have had a successful career in British television writing.

In 2009 the pair received their first drama credit for BBC One's Hotel Babylon. 

A year later they began writing episodes for BAFTA winning Spooks (MI-5) and soon became the programme’s leading writers.

Now they are the writers of sci-fi Channel 4 show Humans, which explores the presence of synths (human-like-robots) in people’s homes. 

In Humans, the Channel 4 hit drama, the latest must-have gadget is a synth, a life-like humanoid who undertakes a range of tasks around the home.
