The BBC’s regional producer dominated the news and current affairs categories, with Inside Out winning the News or Current Affairs Story category for its investigation into faulty Ford cars.

RTS Yorkshire announce nominations for 2019 Awards
Just under 100 industry professionals gathered at Prime’s new events space, Archive, to discover whether their work had made it on to the awards shortlist. Larry and Paul, a comedy act who have built up a strong local following on BBC Radio Leeds, hosted the launch.
Nominations for the 18 awards categories reflected the healthy level of production in the Yorkshire region. The hotly contested factual awards earned multiple nominations for Daisybeck Studios, Air TV, True North and True Vision Yorkshire.
RTS Yorkshire celebrate young talent at Student Awards
The University of York’s Isaac Smith took home the Animation award for The Animator, which the judges praised as a “fantastic and entertaining short film that delivered everything it promised”.
The drama award went to a team from the Northern Film School at Leeds Beckett University for Argot, an “imaginative and mature film with a brilliant central premise”. Another group of Northern Film School students won the Short Form prize for the “really impressive, evocative” Footfalls.

Charlotte Thomas from the Northern Film School at Leeds Beckett University took the Animation award with Goodbye, which the judges said was an “exceptionally accomplished piece for a single animator”, employing “a cohesive story with a clever twist and carefully observed character animation”.
Cleveland College of Art and Design students Janice Lee, Jamie Jones, Sarah Maher and Beth Taylor were awarded the Comedy and Entertainment prize for the “inventive” and “hugely professional” Cirque.
RTS Yorkshire encourages the next generation at Leeds University
In early February, RTS Yorkshire leading lights Jo Haddock, Lisa Holdsworth and Fiona Thompson took part in Leeds University’s “Media futures” lecture series. In a lively session, they answered that perennial question, “How did you get into TV?” All three women had very different answers.
RTS celebrates 90th anniversary in Yorkshire
The RTS was founded in September 1927, following a lecture at Leeds University from one of the future inventors of television, John Logie Baird.
“Invented before TV – the RTS was always ahead of its time,” said RTS Yorkshire Chair Fiona Thompson, while introducing Bragg to a sell-out crowd at ITV’s Leeds Television Centre in late-November.
During a wide-ranging address, the veteran arts broadcaster argued: “All new inventions provoke wonder and horror; hope and fear.” Television, too, has “a dark side”.
Event report: An evening with the Chuckle Brothers
The brothers, Paul and Barry, were interviewed on stage at Holy Trinity Church in Leeds by the author and light entertainment aficionado Louis Barfe.
The brothers’ father, Gene Patton, was a well-known Gang Show performer who had worked with a teenage Peter Sellers. Indeed, the brothers think that some of the characters later performed by the chameleon-like Sellers bore a striking resemblance to their father.

Comedy legend returns to Leeds
Yorkshire RTS invited Barry Cryer back to his Leeds birthplace for an evening of showbiz anecdotes. The comedian and writer, who turned 80 earlier this year, showed a sell-out crowd that he has lost none of his wit and sparkle.
The event took place in mid-October at the atmospheric Trinity Church in Leeds, just yards away from where Cryer started his extraordinary career, the City Varieties Music Hall.
