Matt Berry to star in BBC One’s Toast Of Tinseltown

Written and created by Arthur Matthews and Matt Berry, the six-part series will follow Steven Toast, a pretentious and quirky actor who moves to Hollywood in an attempt to become a film star and gain the fame and adoration he mistakenly thinks he deserves. 

Berry previously played Toast in three series of Toast Of London and the new series will see new and returning cast. 

BBC Two announces new comedy slate

Starting in May, Thursday nights will feature a full comedy slot, with a new series from the creators of The Inbetweeners called The First Team, which will run alongside the new series of QI.

Later in the year, they will be replaced by the second series of What We Do In The Shadows, starring Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Kayvan Novak, and There She Goes, with David Tennant and Jessica Hynes.

Year of the Rabbit to return for a second series

Matt Berry once again plays no nonsense hard-hitting boozer detective Rabbit, joined by his hopeless partner Strauss (Freddie Fox) and the country’s first ever female police officer, the tenacious Mabel (Susan Wokoma).

The unlikely trio come together to help fight crime in London’s East End, with the end of series one seeing them face their biggest foe Lydia (Keeley Hawes).

After initially fooling everyone, by feigning feelings for Strauss and getting Mabel to join her secret female society, Lydia’s plot to take down London was stopped by Rabbit and the gang.

The show ended in revelatory fashion this week on BBC 2. Written by Tom Rob Smith, it tells the story of Danny, played by Ben Whishaw (James Bond), who falls in love with a mysterious man, Alex (Edward Holcroft – Kingsman: The Secret Service, Wolf Hall.) After Alex disappears Danny begins to look into the life of his partner, revealing a twisted tale of murder, betrayal and espionage. A fantastic supporting cast including Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling enhance this tense thriller.
