The sci-fi thriller exhibits a present-day world turned upside down by a mysterious power harboured only by teenage girls.
Later this month, Prime Video will premiere The Power, transporting viewers to an alternate reality where teenage girls have the power to electrocute people at will.
The trailer offers a taster of the series' multiple, concurrent narratives. Stories are bound by the central theme, but set across the globe, featuring locations such as London, Seattle, Nigeria and Eastern Europe. The patriarchal power balance is reimagined in this fantastical dramedy, but what kind of effect will it have on society? “Power saves, power corrupts” reads the trailer.
The series is based on the eponymous best-selling book by British author Naomi Alderman.
One plotline in America features a whole family grappling with their daughter’s transformative powers. Toni Collete (The Staircase) and John Leguizamo (When They See Us) will star as Margot and Rob Cleary Lopez, mother and father of Izzy, played by Auli’i Cravalho (Moana).
“Today we have a story that’s gonna change the world”, says character Tunde Ojo in the trailer, a journalist reporting on the phenomenon from Nigeria. Tunde is played by Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso).
The show also features Josh Charles (We Own This City) as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan) as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz (Three Girls) as Roxy Monke, Zrinka Cvitešić (Lost in London) as Tatiana Moskalev and Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery in her breakout role.
Produced by SISTER studios (Chernobyl), the series also includes writer and producer Raelle Tucker (True Blood) acting as a showrunner.
The Power debuts on Amazon Prime Video on 31st March.
