The Power and the glory

In many ways, what inspired The Power was my whole life,” is how author Naomi Alderman begins her roller-coaster tale. “I had just had a really bad break-up – one of those break-ups where you wake up every morning crying – and, having had this terrible break-up, I got on the Tube and saw a poster advertising a movie, which had a beautiful woman crying.

Prime Video drops electrifying trailer for The Power

Later this month, Prime Video will premiere The Power, transporting viewers to an alternate reality where teenage girls have the power to electrocute people at will.

The trailer offers a taster of the series' multiple, concurrent narratives. Stories are bound by the central theme, but set across the globe, featuring locations such as London, Seattle, Nigeria and Eastern Europe. The patriarchal power balance is reimagined in this fantastical dramedy, but what kind of effect will it have on society? “Power saves, power corrupts” reads the trailer.
