Prime proves that laughter is international with Last One Laughing UK commission.
The first rule of Last One Laughing is you must not laugh. The second rule is much the same. 10 comedians are locked in a room together for six hours, aiming to be the last one laughing to win some money for a chosen charity. Jimmy Carr will oversee the events, his iconic laugh no doubt making each comics job just that little bit harder.
The format has been immensely popular since its inception in Japan, under the name Documental, and has now been created in 20 territories. Ireland was one of the most recent countries to hop on the bandwagon, with their series featuring an entirely Irish cast of comedians including Aisling Bea, Jason Byrne, and hosted by Dara O’Brien.
During the six hours, the comics will participate in several challenges, all designed to make holding back giggles excruciating. It’s not just the other comics they’re up against, they’ll also be special celebrity cameos. Ireland, for example, brought in the big guns… Jedward. There are no strikes, one laugh and they’ll be forced to watch the challenges from the sidelines.
Jimmy Carr said: “I’m thrilled to be making Last One Laughing UK with Prime Video. It’s sure to deliver and if it doesn’t, it will leave the fun with your neighbours. Usually when I make a TV show with 10 brilliant comics, I’m expecting everyone to have a bloody good laugh - but not in this series. The last one laughing wins. It’s a great format and it’s been a huge hit around the world. I can’t wait to see who cracks up first.”
Last One Laughing UK will launch on Prime Video in 2025.
