Benito Skinner’s debut comedy has been picked up by Prime Video, and Kyle MacLachlan and Kaia Gerber are amongst those added to the cast.

Skinner is best known for his comedy skits and celebrity impersonations across social media, under the handle @bennydrama7.

Overcompensating stars Skinner as Benny, a former homecoming king and footballer struggling to come out of the closet once his heteronormative high school years have passed.

At college, Benny meets Carmen (Wally Baram, What We Do in the Shadows), who was a high school outsider and is now desperate to fit in. With Benny’s older sister (Mary Beth Barone, Black Mirror) and her BNOC boyfriend (Adam DiMarco, The White Lotus) in their ears, Benny and Carmen embark on all things college: fake IDs, cheap alcohol and heartless hookups.

The series boasts an impressive list of executive producers, from Skinner himself, to Jonah Hill, and even Charli XCX as executive music producer.

Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) and Connie Britton (American Horror Story) will play Benny’s overbearing parents, who also can’t get over his high school glory days. Other cast added include Bottom’s Kaia Gerber as secret society head Esther, with Alexandra Beaton (Luckiest Girl Alive) as her co-head. Gen V’s Elias Azimi and Maddie Phillips reunite as freshmen frat bro and party girl Chris and Gigi, and The Detail’s Claire Qute plays horse girl Sloan.

Other cast include Corteon Moore (From), Owen Thiele (Theater Camp), Nell Verlaque (Thanksgiving), Julia Shiplett (Love Life), and Tommy Do (Miracle Workers) in recurring roles.

Prime Video’s Overcompensating does not currently have a release date set.
