The BBC has revealed first-look images of new three-part Agatha Christie adaptation Towards Zero.
British tennis icon Nevile Strange (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Wilderness) made headlines with a scandalous divorce from Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland, Fifteen-Love). Now, the two have decided to keep the rumour mill turning by spending a summer together at the coastal estate of Nevile’s aunt, Lady Tressilian (Anjelica Huston, The Addams Family). To make things even messier, Nevile’s new wife, Kay Elliott (Mimi Keene, Sex Education) is also there.
Murder soon follows, forcing Inspector Leach (Matthew Rhys, The Americans) to get his act together and dive headfirst into the world of love and jealousy.
Joining the cast are Clarke Peters (The Wire) as Mr Treves, Jack Farthing (Spencer) as Thomas Royde and Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts) as Mary Aldin. Jackie Clune (Motherland), Grace Doherty (Call the Midwife), Khalil Gharbia (Mary & George), and Adam Hugill (Sherwood) also appear.
“These are among the richest and most complex of Christie's characters, and I was captivated from the first by the charisma, in particular, of her female characters,” said writer Rachel Bennette. “It has been thrilling to bring them all to life in this disturbing tale of truth and lies, love and hate, a story which unfolds amidst the dark, cinematic glamour of the 1930s, yet feels startlingly of our time.”
In the UK, Towards Zero will air in 2025 on BBC One, when it will also be made available on iPlayer. It will be available on Britbox International’s streaming service in America and Canada.
