In light of the blazing success of James Graham’s state-of-the-nation crime drama, Sherwood, the BBC has commissioned a second series.
The first series, which concluded yesterday, launched to over six million viewers.
It followed two shocking murder investigations which shatter the community of Sherwood, a Nottinghamshire village still divided by a Miners’ Strike that took place three decades before.
It is writer Graham’s most personal work, having been inspired by real events that occurred in his own home Nottinghamshire mining village.
“I’ve been so deeply moved by the response to Sherwood,” said Graham. “These stories come from my home, and I want to specifically express gratitude to my community for whom I know these subjects can be difficult, but - I hope - important ones to explore."
Graham will return to the pit villages and surrounding towns of his county for the second series, continuing to examine the lives and legacies of those governed by Britain’s industrial past.
Executive Producers for House, Juliette Howell and Tessa Ross, commented: “No single place is defined by just one story, and it was always our intention, and hope, that [Graham] would get to return to the wider community of Nottinghamshire to build on the world created in Sherwood.”
Series two of Sherwood will begin filming in 2023.
