Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Mimi Keene and newcomer Ella Lily Hyland will join Anjelica Huston in a summer of slaughter for new drama Towards Zero.

Adapted from Christie’s 1944 novel of the same name, Towards Zero sees a deadly love triangle form at a coastal mansion after childhood sweethearts Nevile Strange (Jackson-Cohen, Haunting of Hill House) and Audrey (Lily Hyland, Black Doves) decide they need a divorce. Unfortunately for the two of them, Nevile is a tennis superstar, and this sends them into the 1936 version of tabloid scandal.

The two decide to spend summer together, with an unusual guest – Nevile’s new wife, Kay (Keene, Sex Education). Also looking for a coastal retreat is the estate’s owner, Nevile’s aunt and matriarch Lady Tressilian (Huston, The Addams Family), alongside a collection of ostracised cousins, family lawyers, French conmen and orphans.

Soon, murder strikes – unsurprising in a house party of strong characters at odds – and it is up to a ‘troubled detective’ to solve the crime before the murders multiply.

Joining the cast in as yet unspecified roles are Khalil Gharbia (Mary & George), Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts), Jackie Clune (Motherland), Clarke Peters (The Wire), Grace Doherty (Call the Midwife), Adam Hugill (Sherwood), Jack Farthing (Rain Dogs), and Matthew Rhys (The Americans).

The novel was last adapted in 2007, as part of ITV’s Marple series, which changed some characters to insert the unassuming ‘spinster’ detective. The BBC’s adaption will be a Marple-less mystery.

Anjelica Huston says: “I have long been a fan of Agatha Christie and the murder-mystery genre and always love the opportunity to film in England. I am thrilled to be working with director Sam Yates and this wonderful cast, and excited to play the clever and dignified Camilla, Lady Tressilian.”

James Prichard, executive producer for Agatha Christie Limited, says: “This is a very special production. Rachel has done an extraordinary job on making my great-grandmother's story even more dramatic, intense and troubling. Add in a cast of this calibre and viewers are in for a real treat.”

Towards Zero will air on BBC One and iPlayer. Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie’s recent adaption Murder is Easy is available to watch on iPlayer now.
