Locked Up - Channel 4

Walter Presents is also bringing back successful Spanish prison drama Locked Up.

The first series proved popular last year, with Walter Iuzzolino of Walter Presents telling the RTS that the day after the show launched online, “something like 11 000 people had already burned through the entire [series]”

The show, he said, “is “really different. It’s really Hispanic. It’s very technicolour. It’s fun. It’s very sweaty. It is Spanish exuberance!”

Starring German megastar and Hollywood actor Til Schweiger (Inglorious Basterds, This Means War), Nick’s Law follows lone wolf detective Nick Tschiller as he takes on the Astan clan, the gang at the heart of Hamburg’s criminal empire.

After moving his family to Hamburg for a fresh start, it doesn’t take long before Tschiller’s (Schweiger) all-guns-blazing approach lands him in hot water with the District Attorney.

Speaking at the premiere of the new series, held at the Institute Français in London, Walter Iuzzolino of Walter Presents revealed that Spin will be taking the Friday night slot in the weeks surrounding the French presidential election this year.

The series, he said, was a building block for the entire Walter Presents project. “It was the first show we bought for the UK, and it was the first show we bought for our US launch and so it’s the brick on which we built the whole thing.”

From director Baldvin Zophoniasson (Trapped), comes hit thriller Case, which tells the story of deep-rooted abuse and corruption within Reykjavik. 

It all begins with the discovery of a young ballerina found hanged on the main stage at the National Theatre. The incident is deemed a suicide, but three determined individuals believe there is another story to be told and not everything is what it seems.

On a mission to uncover the truth of what really happened, their paths will cross as their investigations uncover crimes worse than murder. 

“I feel completely privileged” he says, “I do something I love and my job is to talk about my passion, and to galvanise as many people around me as possible.”

Walter Iuzzolino is the man behind Walter Presents, the digital, foreign language drama platform that has been a runaway success for Channel 4.

Mitchell & Webb head Back to 4

At the broadcaster’s Upfront 2017 event, they announced a brand new comedy series from Peep Show writer Simon Blackwell, to star David Mitchell and Robert Webb; named the first celebrities to take part in this year’s The Jump; and promised a massive content investment increase for 2017 on All 4

The stars of Peep Show Mitchell and Webb are returning to Channel 4 in Back.

Titled Deutschland86, the second series picks up the story of Communist agent Martin Rauch who we last saw in East Germany, caught up in a betrayal plot amongst his superior officers.

Three years later, in 1986, Martin emerges as an exile in East Africa and is once again enlisted by his Aunt Lenora to fight in the Global Cold War. Set amongst true stories of terrorism in 1980s Western Europe, Deutschland86 journeys through events in Paris, Johannesburg, and Tripoli before returning to a divided Berlin where nationwide anxieties are coming to a head.

Exodus: Our Journey to Europe

This three-part documentary series offers a unique insight into the intense and dangerous journeys made by migrants at the peak of the 2015 refugee crisis.

Migrants who were fleeing war, poverty or political upheaval were given camera phones to capture their journey to the relative safety of European shores.

They filmed where regular TV crews could not: on inflatable dinghies bobbing across the Mediterranean or in the backs of trucks as they were smuggled across the Sahara.

Subtitles, sass and sex are the latest must-haves for broadcasters who are serious about satisfying their audiences. British viewers’ expanding appetite for foreign-language shows has taken in the mafia in Gomorrah on Sky Atlantic, the chilly Icelandic landscape of Trapped on BBC Four and the visceral drugs drama Prófugos on Channel 4’s new online service, Walter Presents.
