STV Supports Scottish Students’ Steps to Success

STV's new Chief Executive Simon Pitts unveils new growth plan
STV’s new drama The Victim, a legal thriller set in Scotland and made for BBC One, is told through the eyes of both plaintiff and accused. All stories have two sides to them. The narrative concerning the changes going on in Scottish broadcasting is no different.
Glasgow-based STV has a new Chief Executive, Simon Pitts, formerly ITV’s director of transformation and strategy. His new strategy has gone down well in the city and with some producers, but less so with certain journalists and politicians.
Creative Media Network Scotland Student Festival 2018
Kevin McCrae, cofounder of animation and visual FX specialist company Playdead recounted his beginnings in London, first studying and then picking up work amongst various VFX companies, before getting a break with Firecracker Films, where he worked as a motion graphic designer.
RTS Scotland awards 2017: the winners
Connolly, who was unable to attend the Glasgow event in mid-May, said in his acceptance speech from the United States: “I owe everything to Bill Tennent from Scottish Television who put me on his show every time he couldn’t find another guest.”
The RTS Scotland Awards were held at the Oran Mor in the city, and hosted by STV presenter Jennifer Reoch and stand-up comedian and radio presenter Des Clarke.
Next generation of TV journalism
This Wednesday saw The Royal Television Society bring together four generations of journalism; from current students, young journalists beginning their careers, established professionals and affectionately titled “elder statesmen”, to celebrate and showcase some of the amazing work by the three nominees for Young Journalist of the Year in this year’s RTS Scotland Awards on 17th May.

Smith is best known for her work on programmes such as Rab C Nesbitt and Burdz Eye View. She won the 2016 RTS Scotland Best On Screen Personality award for the latter. She currently stars as Christine O'Neal in Two Doors Down.

The Edinburgh Napier University student was awarded the Drama prize for Lethe. “This was the category that really [enthused] the judges. One said the reason he enjoyed judging the student awards so much was that because every year he’d come across gems like these,” said Henry Eagles, the chair of the judges.
Romero also won the Comedy and Entertainment award for Native Immigration, a mockumentary that boasted “high production values and a great use of graphics”.
