Gritty Canadian drama Cardinal heads to BBC Four

Detective John Cardinal (Billy Campbell, The Killing) is the eponymous star of the series, who joins forces with Lise Delorme (Karine Vanasse, Revenge) to hunt down a vicious serial killer in the icy wastes of a small Northern Ontario town.

Adapted from Giles Blunt’s award-winning novel Forty Words for Sorrow, the first in the John Cardinal series, the six-part drama will air later this year.

Daniel Mays to appear in BBC Two's Against The Law

Daniel Mays will take the role of journalist Peter Wildeblood, in the dramatisation of the real-life story. Wildeblood's partner Eddie McNally (Richard Gadd) comes under pressure from the authorities to turn on him, in one of the most explosive court cases of the 1950s; the Montagu Trial.

With his career in disarray and private life exposed, Wildeblood began his jail sentence as a broken man, but emerged a year later determined to change the way the laws against homosexuality impacted on the lives of men just like him.

BBC One announces brand-new thriller McMafia

With his family living in exile in London, Alex Goodman - played by James Norton (Happy Valley, War and Peace) - is forced to confront all values that he holds dear.

He is the English-raised son of Russian exiles with a mafia history, and as a result has spent his life trying to escape the shadows of that criminal past, creating his own business and enjoying life with his girlfriend.

What starts out as a tale of survival becomes a murderous story of his constant struggle against the lures of corruption in the modern world.

Walter Presents to premiere new drama Case on Channel 4

From director Baldvin Zophoniasson (Trapped), comes hit thriller Case, which tells the story of deep-rooted abuse and corruption within Reykjavik. 

It all begins with the discovery of a young ballerina found hanged on the main stage at the National Theatre. The incident is deemed a suicide, but three determined individuals believe there is another story to be told and not everything is what it seems.

On a mission to uncover the truth of what really happened, their paths will cross as their investigations uncover crimes worse than murder. 

ITV commissions new drama series Clean Break

Clean Break follows the story of single mother and cleaning lady Sam (Sheridan Smith), who becomes caught up in the dangerous world of insider trading.

The drama focuses on the struggles of the working class protagonist leading a dual life in online gambling whilst acting as devoted mother fighting for custody of her two daughters.

She soon realises she has access to powerful stock market information and sees it as her opportunity to get her life back.

Sky release first trailer for political drama Guerrilla

The six-part drama series takes place in 1970s London and focuses on a couple who form a radical underground cell with their friends and fellow political activists.

The tension-building trailer gives a first glimpse of the central couple Jas (Freida Pinto) and Marcus (Babou Ceesay) tangled in a dangerous opposition with a racist police force, who are determined to oppress the social and political activism of the black movement.

Jim Sturgess and Agyness Deyn to star in new drama from Luther creator

Jim Sturgess (One Day) and Agyness Deyn (Clash of the Titans) will star in the pre-apocalyptic drama from Luther creator Neil Cross.

The six-part series follows detectives Elaine Renko and Robert Hinks as they attempt to keep order and protect their families as the apocalypse approaches.

They must work together if they are to survive the end of the world, however the two detectives could not be more different: one is kind, gentle and corrupt, the other damaged, difficult and incorruptible.

Channel 4 & Triforce Creative Network announce 10 new faces

The actors won regional heats before taking part in competing in a national final in December 2016 where Channel 4 selected their top 10.

Channel 4 have committed to exploring ways to develop the 10 winners’ careers.

The 10 selected actors are Hannah Margaret from Leeds, who was also crowned national champion, Adaya Henry and Joanna Gay winners of the Birmingham heats, Frances Pooley the Leicester winner, Winston Sarpong, winner of the Essex MonologueSlam, and Connor Mills, Maia Watkins, Richard Rowe-McGhie, Debra Baker and Kayla Meikle from London.
