Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw to lead new Doctor Who spin-off

Russell Tovey (Being Human) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki) will star in the five-part series, created by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies. Davies co-wrote the show with Peter McTighe, who has also written for the long running sci-fi staple.

Jemma Redgrave (Grantchester) will reprise her Doctor Who role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, commander-in-chief of military outfit UNIT, while Alexander Devrient (Ted Lasso) will return as Colonel Ibrahim.

This time round, the top cop faces a high-stakes investigation that threatens to shake him to his core. With his family and career on the line, can he confront his demons in time?

Where the original show, which ran on BBC1 from 1981-91, used a ‘case of the week’ format, the new series will follow just one murder mystery across its six episodes.

Filming is to begin this summer on the show, a BlackLight TV production, itself part of Banijay. It is written by Toby Whithouse (Being Human), with Brian Fillis, Catherine Tregenna and Polly Buckle.

Churchill’s Secret - ITV

This one of TV film stars Harry Potter actor Michael Gambon as Winston Churchill. In 1953 Winston Churchill has the first of several strokes which was kept secret from the world. Told from the perspective of his young nurse, Churchill fights to recover, all the while holding tight to the reins of the nation, refusing to relinquish his Prime Ministership.

 

 

Improv adds realism to cop show

Channel 5 is renowned neither for its homegrown drama nor for attracting critical praise, but Suspects gives it both. The cop show has notched up three series since its TV debut in February 2014 and, at the end of April, it was the subject of an RTS London event at ITV’s London Studios.
