MTV’s new reality offering is Spring Break With Grandad, which sees eight attractive young singletons head off to Cancun in Mexico for the “greatest vacation of their lives”. The catch? Their grandparents are coming along too.

Born in Rotherham Barry and Paul Elliot have been better known as the Chuckle Brothers since they won Opportunity Knocks in 1967. Over the intervening fifty years they have carved out a unique television niche. Their beloved children's show, Chucklevision, ran for over twenty years on CBBC. They've made dozens of guest appearances on other shows from 3-2-1 to Comic Relief. Recently they've been elevated to cult status after their famous catchphrase "from me, to you" was sampled by the rapper Tinchy Strider. And they appear in Leeds hotfoot from their triumphant appearance at Bestival.
This big-budget adventure drama follows the escapades of an unlikely duo – maverick adventurer Hooten (Michael Landes) and Lady Alexandra Lindo-Parker (Ophelia Lovibond), a refined British Museum historian. They travel the globe searching for lost relics, and get into numerous scrapes along the way. The first episode sees the pair hunting the lost city of gold – El Dorado, and hints dropped by Sky suggest further episodes will be set in Egypt and the Himalayas.

But there seem to be more questions than answers. Can Virtual Reality ever be anything more than a toy for gamers? How do you tell a meaningful story in 360⁰? Why would anyone want to wear a headset in their living room? Are consumers actually generating compelling content themselves? Finally, is there any money to be made, and if so, where are the opportunities for producers, commissioners and platforms?
