Netflix has revealed first-look images and a release date for the third and final series of Squid Game.

Series two dropped on Boxing Day last year, and saw the mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) murder Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), the best friend of protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae, The Acolyte). Unbeknownst to Gi-hun, Front Man is Young-il, one of the players who Gi-hun counts on as a close ally.

“I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story,” director, writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote in a note to fans released on Netflix and Squid Game’s social media accounts in August 2024. “We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”

“The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3,” the note continues.

Squid Game series three will be streaming on Netflix from 27 June.
