Channel 4 has revealed the casting and first look image of their new comedy Big Mood (working title), starring Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) and Lydia West (It’s a Sin).
Maggie (Coughlan) and Eddie (West) will be forced to see if their decade long friendship will survive into their thirties, as the return of Maggie’s bipolar disorder compels Eddie to consider whether the friendship is worth maintaining.
The programme will look at the complexities of both female friendship and mental illness, as the friends enter pivotal points in their lives. Together, the two will explore whether the creation of a basement rat hotel could be an alternative to rat traps, whether a romance with an ex-history teacher will spark joy, and whether a psychotherapist should be handing out worry dolls.
Joining Coughlan and West will be Eamon Farren (The Witcher), Niamh Cusack (The Virtues), Luke Fetherston (Pandora), Kate Fleetwood (Wheel of Time), Robert Gilbert (Killing Eve), Rebecca Lowman (Prime Suspect), Sally Phillips (Miranda), Ukweli Roach (Wolf) and Amalia Vitale (Willow).
Other cast members include Olu Adaeze (Top Boy), Max Bennett (Poldark), David Bedella (Inside No. 9), Tim Downie (Toast of London), Ron Donachie (Screw), Sarah Durham (Sex Education), Amy Gledhill (Alma’s Not Normal), Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines), Simon Meacock (Outlander), David Mumeni (Stath Lets Flats), David Newman (Endeavour), Freya Parker (Lazy Susan), Shuna Snow (Orna), Sid Sagar (Belfast), Lottie Tolhurst (Funny Woman), Robin Weaver (Extraordinary) and Neil Edmond (Phantom of the Open).
Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page will make a guest appearance playing herself.
Lara Grace Ilori, Isobel Thom, Stephen Sobal and content creator Maddie Grace Jepson will be having their debuts alongside child actors Skylar Betteridge and Layla-Belle Matthews.
The series will air on Channel 4 with the release date yet to be announced.
