Comedians Rose Matafeo and Mike Wozniak will take on the roles of Taskmaster and Taskmaster’s Assistant in a new junior Taskmaster spin-off.
Spring boarding off the success of Taskmaster with younger audiences, Junior Taskmaster will follow in the footsteps of the flagship comedy game show which sees Greg Davies (Man Down) and Alex Horne (The Horne Section) as Taskmaster and Assistant.
The duo oversees five comedians as they complete such bizarre and hilarous tasks as “make this coconut look like a business man” or “fill this eggcup with your tears”. The new Junior show will see the usual celebrity contestants replaced by five 9-11-year-olds, as they try their hands at whatever the Junior Taskmaster may throw at them, all to win a shiny trophy.
Rose Matafeo will be seated in the Taskmaster’s throne, serving as the host and doling out the points to the hopeful junior contestants. As Taskmaster's Assistant, Mike Wozniak will both introduce and oversee the tasks, as well as assisting Matafeo in whichever way she deems fit.
Both Wozniak and Matafeo have competed in Taskmaster themselves, setting them apart from the original show’s hosts. Matafeo and Wozniak both finished second within their respective series, but not without some noteworthy moments. In series nine, Matafeo held a funeral for a chickpea after being asked to do the most preposterous thing to it. Wozniak yelled “you have no Chutzpah” at a vole and popped a haemorrhoid in series 11.
Rose Matafeo, the Junior Taskmaster, said: “To be appointed as Junior Taskmaster is one of the greatest honours of my already wildly successful career. I am greatly looking forward to the power going to my head”.
Mike Wozniak, the Junior Taskmaster’s Assistant, said: “All I ever wanted to be when I grew up was a Little Alex Horne (or a regional manager for a major provider of motorway service stations) so this is literally a dream come true. I hereby vow to do my utmost to hold the office of Junior Taskmaster’s Assistant in the spirit of the original Little Alex Horne: with his courage, his grit and his dignity”.
Junior Taskmaster does not yet have a release date, however, series 15 of Taskmaster is currently airing on Channel 4, with the last episode airing on 1 June 2023. All episodes of Taskmaster are available to watch on All4.
