This year's RTS London Student Awards Ceremony will be hosted by Ore Oduba, the rising star of sports broadcasting and a regular face on the UK’s leading morning news programme, BBC Breakfast,
Tickets are available for the nominees and their university staff, with 20 available on ballot for members to attend and network with the next generation of TV creatives.
The RTS Student Television Awards celebrate the best audiovisual work created by students across the UK at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
New for this year, Drama has been divided into two separate categories – Entertainment and Comedy Drama and Drama. The News and Sport category has also been expanded and renamed Journalism so as to incorporate short reports, sports reports and longer feature pieces. Sustainability has also been updated to Environment and Sustainability, so that entries can now include factual or fictional work relating to the environment.
Voltage Television executive producer Amanda Lyon, who looks after BBC Two hit Inside the Factory: said: “I’ve never felt I’ve missed out on anything by being female.”
She was talking at the “Wonder women” session, which brought together successful female TV executives in conversation with presenter Ria Hebden.
Chaired by Philip Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts, the awards recognise the best audiovisual work created by students across the UK and Republic of Ireland at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Awards are judged in six categories – Animation, Comedy & Entertainment, Drama, Factual, News and Short Feature.

The RTS National Student Television Awards took place on Friday 16th June at the BFI in London, at a ceremony hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan. After initial judging of the undergraduate entries in the regions, the nominations for the national final were selected from the regional winners by the national juries.
At a ceremony hosted by BBC One Inside Out North East & Cumbria presenter Chris Jackson, the winning teams received trophies and certificates from the RTS North East and the Borders Centre.
The senior winners were Hartlepool Sixth Form College’s Ely King, who took the Entertainment award for Goner and Stratford upon Avon College’s Alex Eves, whose film, Bloom, won the Drama prize.
Having cut her teeth as a print news journalist, Margaret Emsley has spent the last 18 years at ITV Yorkshire working on the Calendar regional news programme in Leeds. Starting out as a bulletin writer, she worked her way up the ranks and today oversees the entire production of the daily news show.

The Society is offering 20 bursaries to students studying Television Production and Broadcast Journalism courses at accredited universities. A further five technology bursaries are also available to students studying Computing and Engineering at some of the top courses at British universities.
