So, it was no surprise to see so many attend an RTS “Anatomy of a hit” event to hear what writer Jed Mercurio might reveal about what’s in store for the next series.

Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes return as Queen Victoria and her beloved consort Albert in the hotly-anticipated third series of the regal drama. Created and written by Daisy Goodwin, the new series will see Laurence Fox (Lewis) play charming and rebellious Foreign Secretary Lord Palmerston. The series will also see the addition of Olivier and Tony award-nominated Kate Fleetwood (Harlots) as Victoria’s mysterious sister Feodora who makes an unforeseen return into the Queen’s life.
For almost a decade, UKTV, currently owned jointly by BBC Studios and Discovery, has been screening innovative and successful original entertainment shows. Over the past five years, the number of original shows has grown fivefold. Today, UKTV commissions in every genre, other than children’s, news and current affairs.
Speaking at an Anatomy of a Hit event dedicated to the police corruption series, Mercurio revealed he has written the first couple of episodes of season five, which is due to air next year.
He said of the next series: “It feels like things we haven’t done before, characters we haven’t seen before and that’s part of the construction of the series; the architecture that allows us to rejuvenate the format.
