Netflix reveals the release date for the much anticipated third series of Bridgerton, centred around a fan-favourite romance.
Each series of the historical drama, likened to a regency era Gossip Girl, focuses on one member of the titular family. Series two saw Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey, Fellow Travelers) take centre stage as he struggled to choose between his intended wife and ‘diamond of the season’, and her older sister Kate. The events of ‘the societal season’ are reported in a gossip style newsletter by the elusive Lady Whistledown, often to the dismay of the upper classes.
In the upcoming third series, the focus will be on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan, Derry Girls), a long-time friend of the Bridgerton family, and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton, The Lodge). The friends to lovers have been dubbed ‘Polin’ and have already amassed an online fanbase.
Late in series two, Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie, Line of Duty) discovered Penelope’s best kept secret – that she writes as Lady Whistledown. Despite Eloise being a big fan of Whistledown’s writing, this led to a massive rift between the two, which will be explored in the upcoming series. With Penelope’s growing societal presence, it will get more and more difficult to conceal her secret identity.
The first four episodes of Bridgerton series three will premiere on Netflix Thursday 16 May 2024, with the final four instalments following on Thursday 13 June 2024.
