The Sandman (credit: Netflix)

Alicia Vikander spellbinds in Irma Vep, The Sandman finally lands on screen and it's crunch time in the Love Island villa.

Love Island

Monday

ITV2, 9.00pm

After eight weeks of chats, challenges, romance and heartbreak, just four couples remain in the Love Island villa vying for that £50,000 cash prize to add to their inevitable fashion deals. Bar any last minute drama, Davide and Ekin-Su are the clear frontrunners, having won over most fans with one of the greatest arcs in the history of the show: from flirty gym buddies to sworn enemies to the most passionate of lovers.

The other couples are still in with a chance though, including Dami and Indiyah, Tash and Andrew, and Luca and Gemma.

Irma Vep

Tuesday

Sky Atlantic, 9.00pm

Olivier Assayas expands his cinematic opus for an HBO miniseries. Alicia Vikander stars as the disillusioned movie star, this time from the superhero-obsessed America, who comes to France to star as Irma Vep in an adaptation of the French silent crime film serial Les Vampires.

It’s the arthouse part she’s been dying to play, but she’s soon confused by her difficult director René Vidal’s (Vincent Macaigne) process, and she struggles to stay sane as the distinctions between herself and her character begin to blur.

Worst House on the Street

Tuesday

Channel 4, 8.00pm

Expert property developers and siblings Scarlette and Stuart Douglas help families turn their tired houses into dream homes - but, crucially, on a strict budget.

First up are young professional couple Harry and Yimika, whose ugly terraced house in Croydon needs transforming. The asbestos they find sets them back some time and money, but Scarlette and Stuart manage to restyle the place into one of the best on the street while saving them a small fortune.

Code 404

Thursday

Sky Comedy, 9.00pm

Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays’ buddy cops DI Ray Carver and AI-incarnated DI John Major are back in action.

One of the SIU’s agents has been murdered and it’s up to Major and Carver to crack the case. A new forensic psychologist, Professor McAllister (Vinette Robinson), is brought in to assist, but it’ll take more than profiling to catch the slippery killer.

The Sandman

Friday

Netflix

After many years stuck in development hell, Neil Gaiman has finally adapted his epic graphic novel The Sandman for Netflix. It’s easy to see why it took so long, as Gaiman masterfully weaves history and mythology with the DC Universe to tell a fantastical horror story on the vastest of scales about the forces that exist beyond life and death.

It begins when Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the king of dreams and one of the seven Endless, is captured in 1916 in an occult ritual. After spending 106 years in captivity, he escapes and sets out to restore order to his kingdom of the Dreaming.
