Vigil will return for a third series, the BBC has announced, with Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) both reprising their roles.
This series will see DCI Amy Silva (Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Leslie) investigate the shooting of a special forces operative on a remote Arctic base.
Series one focused on a murder in a naval submarine, whereas series two centred around a drone attack that left several soldiers dead. This time round, Silva and Longacre will find themselves in the middle of another political storm. With multiple countries interested in the resource-rich Arctic, the pair will be operating in the midst of what could turn into an international showdown.
“I can’t wait to return to Vigil series three, see our brilliant team in Scotland and work with Rose again,” said Suranne Jones. “I’m sure it will be a thrill of a ride.”
“I can’t wait to get stuck into another season of Vigil, to work with the wonderful Suranne Jones again and our brilliant crew,” Rose Leslie said. “And this time, Kirsten will get to pack her bags and join Amy on what’s set to be Vigil’s most high-stakes mission yet!”
“I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning for a new adventure,” said writer Tom Edge. “In our third season we travel to the frozen north where the world’s great powers are competing to secure advantages as the ice melts. With a brilliant cast and crew assembling to make the show, we hope to deliver an epic investigation that shines a light on issues that will shape the world we all live in.”
Filming for series three will begin in Scotland later in 2025.
