HBO has released a full-length trailer for series two of zombie apocalypse hit The Last of Us.
Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and RTS award-winner Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) are back as Joel and Ellie. Though they ended series one as friends, five years on, things have deteriorated.
With both of them looking noticeably more weathered in the trailer, Ellie snarls at Joel:
“You swore.”
At the end of the last series, Joel promised Ellie that attempts to find a cure for the zombie outbreak were unsuccessful. In reality, the Firefly militia group were on the cusp of finding a vaccine. That is, before Joel went on a killing spree, when he realised that developing a cure would cost Ellie’s life.
The trailer suggests that a falling out over the fate of the world may be the least of their problems. There’s the Washington Liberation Front to deal with, led by Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright, The French Dispatch), not to mention the cultish Seraphites. Also known as ‘the Scars’, this charming bunch has a penchant for human sacrifice in the middle of torchlit forests. And humans are still being turned into zombies by cordyceps.
Series two of The Last of Us will air on Sky and be available on NOW on 14 April.
