Leeds hosts RTS masterclasses with Hollyoaks production team

More than 150 students from 20 universities heard Lime Pictures’ Hollyoaks production team and a panel from Leeds-based factual indie True North give two masterclasses. Both panels stressed the importance of work experience placements as a way in to the industry.

 

True North development producer Eleanor Wight, editor Luke Rothery and Hollyoaks editor Jake Whiston were all snapped up as a result of successful placements.

 

Channel 4 on the hunt for new northern writers

The writing scheme is open anyone who is new to television, with three successful candidates being placed within independent production companies Lime Pictures and Bonafide Films, where they will undergo mentoring to develop their writing skills.

They will also each receive bursaries of £3,000 to support their time at Lime Pictures or Bonafide Films, along with a nine-month package of training and development from staff at the production companies.

An RTS North West event at the Lowry Theatre, Salford at the end of October – “Children’s drama: from concept to screen” – looked at how the best shows are put together.

On the panel assembled for the event were the executive producer of The Worst Witch, Marcus Wilson; senior drama producer, CBBC Independents, Amy Buscombe; Lime Pictures drama chief Rebecca Hodgson; and Hank Zipzer producer Jim Poyser. The panel was chaired by head of CBBC production Helen Bullough.
