Imelda Staunton is succeeding Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, and will be presiding over what was a turbulent period for the family.

On her accession, Staunton told Tulum: "What has been nice, and I hope I don’t prove them wrong, is people saying, ‘I’m really looking forward to seeing her as the queen.' So, let’s just hope that works out for them, because I’ve done it. Nothing I can do about it now!"

SAS Rogue Heroes tells the story of how the SAS was formed under extraordinary circumstances in the darkest days of WWII.

Twenty years ago this June, a series described by its creator, David Simon, as a “novel for television”, premiered on HBO in the US. Simon had shrewdly pitched The Wire to the cable network as a cop show; its title refers to the use of electronic surveillance to catch drug dealers. His writing partner, Ed Burns, was an ex-Baltimore cop; Simon had worked for the Baltimore Sun as a police reporter. They knew their subject.

Filmed on location in the UK and Morocco, the six-part series will tell a dramatised account of how the darkest days of World War Two lead to the formation of the SAS under extraordinary circumstances.

The series will star Connor Swindells (Sex Education), Jack O’Connell (The North Water), Alfie Allen (White House Farm), Sofia Boutella (Modern Love) and Dominic West (The Pursuit of Love). Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk) will star as SAS founding member Mike Sadler.

Based on Ben Macintyre’s book of the same name, the series will offer a dramatised account of the formation of the SAS during the deadly height of World War Two.

Connor Swindells (Sex Education) will front the series as David Stirling, an eccentric young officer desperate for action after being hospitalised during a training exercise accident in Cairo, 1941. Convinced that the army commando units are failing, he formulates a radical plan to recruit the nation’s toughest and brightest soldiers for a small undercover unit.

Lily James and Emily Beecham to star in the BBC adaptation of The Pursuit of Love

Written and directed by Mortimer, The Pursuit of Love tells a story about the complexities of love and friendship starring Lily James (War & Peace), Emily Beecham (Into the Badlands), Andrew Scott (Fleabag) and Dominic West (Brassic).

Set in Europe between the times of World War one and two, the series follows the adventures of the charismatic and confident Linda Radlett (James) and her best friend and cousin Fanny Logan (Beecham).
