Update TV Skills

RTS London is holding a free all-day training event in partnership with the BBC Academy, WFTV, and Richmond, The American International University in London on Saturday 22nd April. The focus will be on craft and production and will be of particular relevance to anyone returning to television after a period away, moving into new genres, not working in production and need to update yourself, or needing to apply existing skills to new methods and opportunities in a changing media landscape. Topics include:

Are we ready for UHD?

Ultra High Definition is much talked about but rarely understood. With OTT providers now running these high definition services over the internet, and UK broadcasters already trialling broadcast services, we ask: is this a game changer or just another upgrade?

Chaired by Richard Lindsay-Davies, CEO of the DTG,  our panel of technical and production experts examine what makes UHD ultra, what it takes to make and deliver and, of course, do the viewers care anyway?

What actually is Ultra High Definition TV? Richard Salmon - BBC

UHDTV is about more than just increasing the resolution of the TV signal.  Higher frame rates, improved audio, wider colour-space, greater bit-depth and higher dynamic range are moving us towards the next broadcast systems. The speakers are heavily involved in agreeing international standards as the final pieces of the jigsaw are being put together. Their presentation will include demonstrations of higher frame rates and higher dynamic range TV.
