The best 2020 Christmas adverts

To get you in the mood, here are some of the best Christmas adverts of this year. 

Sainsbury’s 

Over the years, Sainsbury’s has delivered some heart-warming and tear-jerking Christmas adverts and this year is no different. 

Celebrating the importance of family at Christmas, the supermarket has released three different adverts that revel in the nostalgia of Christmas moments gone by. 

The advert is filmed as video-style footage of previous Christmas celebrations and phone calls in the present day between family members.

Carols from Kings – behind the scenes

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols from Kings College, Cambridge, was first held on Christmas Eve 1918. Its fame grew after the service was heard on radio in 1928 and, with the exception of 1930, it has been broadcast at home and abroad ever since. In 1954 Christmas Carols from Kings was televised on Christmas Day as part of a live exchange of programmes with other countries with Midnight Mass coming from Paris on Christmas Eve and Winter Games from Switzerland on Boxing Day.

Sky Studios' Gary Davey on why story trumps talent at the RTS Digital Convention 2020

He said he would not emulate Netflix and Amazon who had respectively agreed exclusive contracts with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.   

“The idea of having a talent deal is dangerous,” said Davey, who singled out Sky’s I Hate Suzie, HBO's The Undoing and Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit as among his favourite current shows.  

“What matters first is the story and then finding the right people - whether it’s the writers, producers, directors, cinematographers. 

Breeders Session

Sky Original comedy Breeders is produced by Avalon and FX Productions for FX Networks and Sky One.

The transatlantic critical hit, with series two currently in production, sees Martin Freeman star as Paul, a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was. His partner in this impossibly steep parental climb is Ally (Daisy Haggard), who makes Paul laugh and has the ability to read a story to their children while she's technically asleep.
