Lion Television Scotland has announced a commission for Channel 4, with one-off documentary Welcome to Barbados.
The series follows British families and individuals, looking for a new adventure on the tropical island of Barbados, as they take on the challenge of relocating in the middle of a pandemic and working remotely from the Caribbean sanctuary.
The Barbados government introduced the Barbados Welcome Stamp on the 30th June 2020, which allows people to apply for a visa, enabling them to work remotely in Barbados for a maximum of 12 months.
Three families will open up about their life-changing journey as they prepare to leave Britain and begin a new life that is unlike anything they have experienced before.
Welcome to Barbados will follow millennial Ashley, who can do his job as a 3D digital animator from anywhere in the world with just a laptop.
Kris and Brigitta are relocating with their three young children who have enrolled at a local school.
For couple Amanda and Steve, Amanda has recently retired and plans to use her time exploring the island, while Steve is working remotely for a pharmaceutical company.
Executive producer of Lion TV Scotland, Lisa Hazlehurst, commented: “Welcome to Barbados has been a tremendously enjoyable show to make, following intrepid people escaping not only the UK winter but another lockdown, and starting a new adventure in the Caribbean sunshine.
"It’s been a real treat watching our families explore their new surroundings and make the very most of sparkling white sands and crystal-clear blue water.”
