RTS award-winning writer Daniel Lawrence Taylor will return with a second series of high school comedy Boarders.

Following a scholarship for ‘talented kids from disadvantaged backgrounds’, five black teenagers from inner city London find themselves at a predominately white boarding school, ‘St Gilbert’s’.

The five scholars will return for series two, with Josh Tedeku (A Town Called Malice) as Jaheim, Jodie Campbell (No Return) as Leah, Sekou Diaby as Toby, Myles Kamwendo (The School for Good and Evil) as Omar and Aruna Jalloh as Femi. Lawerence Taylor will also be back as the five’s mentor, Gus.

In series one they were told they would have to fit into the school, and not fit the school around them. And although they were aware they were being used for some good PR, they decided to get everything they could from it.

Series two begins in the wake of a school uprising, which saw headmaster Bernard (Derek Riddell, Payback) be suspended. The mother of Jaheim’s nemesis Rupert (Harry Gilby in his debut), Carol Watlington-Geese (Niky Wardley, The Catherine Tate Show) has stepped up to take control. Unfortunately for the five scholars, this new headmistress wants them gone.

Writer, Creator and Executive Producer, Lawrence Taylor, says: “The response to the first series has been incredibly inspiring, and I'm thrilled to announce the arrival of our second! What I've cherished most about creating this series is showcasing Black experiences on screen and seeing how it resonates with everyone.

“While race can sometimes divide us, the emotions of feeling different, isolated, or trying to fit in are truly universal. I'm especially excited to collaborate with the cast again; they are all budding superstars, and I'm overjoyed to see them bring my words to life once more! I can't wait for you to see it!”

Series one of Boarders is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
