The BBC has commissioned two more six-episode series of Belfast police drama Blue Lights.
The show follows three new recruits to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). For Grace, Annie and Tommy, every day is different, and none are easy. The first series followed them on their probation period as they got to grips with the job, including dealing with the criminal McIntyre gang.
“A two-series recommission is a staggering vote of confidence in Blue Lights – the writers, the cast, the crew and the entire production team,” said co-creators Louise Gallagher and Stephen Wright. “The BBC have been exceptional partners who have helped us elevate the show. A big thank you from everyone in the Blue Lights team for the faith and support given to our show; we are working with the best people. There are so many more stories to tell and we can’t wait to get going again with the Blue Lights squad in Belfast.”
The first series aired on BBC One in March 2023, with series two due to be broadcast in Spring 2024.
In series two, Siân Brooke (House of the Dragon), Katherine Devlin (Vikings) and Nathan Braniff will reprise their roles as Grace, Annie and Tommy, respectively. Martin McCann (Marcella), Joanne Crawford (Sacrifice), Andi Osho (Death in Paradise) and Hannah McClean (Sick Note) will also return.
New additions for series two include Frank Blake (The Frankenstein Chronicles), Seamus O’Hara (An Irish Goodbye) and Seána Kerslake (Can't Cope, Won't Cope).
Further details on series three and four, including casting, are to be announced in due course.
