Sex Actually with Alice Levine (S2)

Monday

Channel 4, 10.00pm

After Alice Levine sat in a room in Tyneside, part hiding from and part documenting a couple’s livestream sex show in series one of Sex Actually with Alice Levine, it was hard to know where this forensic look into 21st century sex would go next.

Levine has an answer for that. In series two, she will be investigating a range of new sexual proclivities, including “digi-sexuals” – people getting their kicks through computers, headsets and robots. She will also be exploring unusual types of relationships such as “relationship anarchy” – an anarchic system where partners are not bound by any rules besides those explicitly agreed upon by all parties.

Levine said: “Even though the people of Gogglebox will likely once again spit out their dinner, I’m thrilled Channel 4 have decided to have me back to explore some more extraordinary love and relationships stories.”

The three-part series will once again be produced by Louis Theroux – who better to have on board for this kind of project?

A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou

Tuesday

Netflix

The RTS may have another sketch show to add to its glowing list. Jamie Demetriou, back from Hollywood excursions filming The Afterparty and the highly anticipated feature film Barbie, looks to have struck comedy gold yet again with A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou.

Created by Demetriou and directed by frequent collaborator Andrew Gaynord (The Characters), the sketch show guides the audience through a journey from birth to death. Literally starting in the womb and going through to adolescence, middle age and finally his deathbed, Demetriou will feature in all of these hilarious sketches.

Sneak peeks have revealed scenes including Ellie White (Stath Lets Flats), who has previous success with the sketch show Ellie and Natasha. Sian Clifford (Fleabag), Kate Wix (Big Boys) and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts) will also feature.

Django

Wednesday

Sky Atlantic, 9pm

Wednesday’s pick takes a turn into the Wild West of late 1800s Texas. A distant relative of Sergio Corbucci’s cult classic, spaghetti Western film of the same name, Django follows the story of the titular character, a weary cowboy searching for his lost daughter Sarah after the rest of his family were murdered in a brutal war years earlier.

When he stumbles upon New Babylon – a mysterious town of outcasts in the bottom of a crater – he finds Sarah, but must prove himself to her to regain her love as she blames him for the loss of their family. Expect breath-taking locations, fantastic costume design and plenty of gunslinging in this action-packed drama.

The series stars Matthias Schoenaerts (The Danish Girl) as Django, Lisa Vicari (Luna) as Sarah and Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy) as John Ellis, founder of New Babylon. The show was created and written by Leonardo Fasoli (Gomorrah the Series).

Murder in the Pacific

Thursday

BBC Two, 9pm

This three-part documentary series chronicles the story of the Rainbow Warrior, the Greenpeace flagship which was bombed and sank into the Auckland Harbour in the summer of 1985, killing a photographer onboard.

Told through the accounts of Greenpeace activists on board, the series unfolds like a crime thriller. Detailing the fascinating story of the boat and the bombing, the story then morphs into one of geopolitics, state-terrorism and nuclear bombs.

“We hope that viewers will see that environmentalism goes beyond politics and is a force for good,” said executive producer Caroline Hawkins. “That governments must be accountable for their actions and that history always has lessons to teach us.”

Daisy Jones & the Six

Friday

Prime Video

Daisy Jones & the Six is a story of music, lovers and 1970s rock’n’roll America. Centred on a fictional band, this musical-drama series stories the rise and fall of a mega-successful rock group, whose music has been drawing comparisons to Fleetwood Mac. A coming-of-age tale, our protagonist Daisy deals with love, intimacy and betrayal on the road to the top.

Starring Riley Keough (The Terminal List) as Daisy Jones, Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders) as key bandmate Billy Dunne and Camila Morrone (Valley Girl) as Billy’s girlfriend Camila Dunne, the trailer has hinted at a fractured relationship between the trio as part of the band’s turbulent story.

The music has been composed by Tom Howe (Ted Lasso) and Blake Mills (James and the Giant Peach with Taika and Friends), with contributions from musicians Phoebe Bridgers, Jackson Browne, and Marcus Mumford.

The series was adapted from the homonymous novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, who took on a role producing Daisy Jones & the Six.
