To mark the 10-year anniversary of the legalisation of gay marriage, Tom Allen will be creating the perfect wedding for one lucky gay couple.

As well as organising the wedding, Allen will look back on the years spent fighting for marriage rights, and his own years growing up gay.  He will meet the LGBTQIA+ activists who made equal marriage possible and reflect on how far gay rights have come over the last decade.

In pursuit of the most spectacular wedding, the couple will be introduced to Allen’s famous friends who will help out with everything from the entertainment to the wedding outfits.

Allen says: "The fact that same sex couples couldn't get married here just ten years ago means we should never be complacent about the progress we've made and so it's only right to celebrate it thoroughly. I'm looking forward to making this joyous celebration of love & gay marriage, or garriage as I like to call it."

Daisy Scalchi, BBC Head of Religion & Ethics, says: “I am so excited about this film. To be celebrating this momentous anniversary with a couple at such an important time in their lives is a privilege. Tom is the perfect person to guide them towards their dream day, while reflecting on how we've got to now and what that means to so many."

My Big Gay Wedding (w/t) will be a one-off 60 minute film, and will be released onto iPlayer and BBC One. The release date will be announced in due course.
