Netflix has released the highly anticipated trailer for the second series of the hit sci-fi series Stranger Things
The eerie trailer begins with the four childhood friends Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Will (Noah Schnapp) playing innocently on an arcade game.
The atmosphere quickly changes as Will Byers is momentarily transported back into the dark Upside Down world and faced with a much bigger threat than the terrifying Demogorgon.
The 'Thriller' trailer, inspired by Michael Jackson's 1982 hit of the same name, reveals more unanswered questions and even more danger in store for the Hawkins residents, who are struggling to go back to their normal lives after the supernatural events shook their small town.
The show appears to continue its nostalgic references to 1980s film and pop culture, with the foursome shown playing the arcade game Dragon's Lair and later shown dressed up as the Ghostbusters for Halloween.
Will Byers seems to take centre stage in the upcoming second installment after spending much of the first series hidden in the depths of the Upside Down, communicating mostly through the lightbulbs his mother Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) set up around the house.
Fan favourite Eleven (Milly Bob Brown) appears to find her way out of the Upside Down in the last moments of the trailer, which sees her break through the barrier after becoming trapped in the other world in the series one finale.
The tense trailer for the Duffer Brothers original Netflix series was aired at Comic Con 2017, where it was also announced that the second series will air on Netflix on the 27th October.
