Creators of Netflix’s blockbuster hit Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, have formed the new production company Upside Down Pictures.

The company have signed an overall deal with Netflix to develop a series of film and television projects, including two set within the world of Stranger Things.

Both a live-action Stranger Things spin-off and a new stage play have been announced by Netflix via their Twitter account. While details remain sparse, the spin-off has been described as ‘a live action series […] based on an original idea by The Duffer Brothers.’

The stage play, set within the world and mythology of Stranger Things, will be produced by the multi-award-winning producers Sonia Friedman (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) and Netflix.

Other projects in development with Upside Down pictures include a live-action television adaptation of the renowned Japanese manga and anime series Death Note, an original series from creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), and a series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman to be created by Curtis Gwinn.
