The globally renowned reality show Big Brother will return to UK television on ITV2 in 2023.
ITV2 made the announcement during the final of Love Island 2022, dropping a surprise teaser in the final ad break. The iconic Big Brother eye was seen pasted over an ITV2 ident as the theme tune played.
The format will remain largely the same, with a new cast of housemates from all walks of life moving into the Big Brother house for up to six weeks as cameras capture their every move.
The house itself will be given a contemporary makeover and the tasks, nominations and live evictions will be brought back. The public will once again play the vital role of voting the housemates off one-by-one to ultimately determine the winner of the cash prize.
Big Brother first aired in the UK on Channel 4 in 2000 and ran for 11 series, before Channel 5 acquired it in 2011 for a further eight. The show then went on hiatus in 2018, which will make the upcoming 2023 series the first in almost five years.
Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning & Acquisitions and Controller at ITV2, ITVBe and CITV said: “This refreshed, contemporary new series of Big Brother will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round, but with a brand new look and some additional twists that speak to today’s audience.
“We’re beyond excited to bring this iconic series to ITV2 and ITVX where it should especially engage with our younger viewers.”
