ITV has confirmed several dramas to air in Autumn and Winter 2024.
Among them is Playing Nice, starring James Norton (Happy Valley) as a father faced with an impossible choice. After learning two toddlers were switched at birth, their parents must decide whether to keep the children they’ve been raising, or swap to be with their biological sons. Pete (Norton) and Maddie (Niamh Algar) seem to be in agreement with the other couple, Miles (James McArdle) and Lucy (Jessica Brown Findlay). That is, until ulterior motives rise to the surface.
Meanwhile, Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland) stars in Until I Kill You, which dramatises the true story of Delia Balmer, who survived a relationship with a serial killer. The series is an adaptation of Delia’s memoir, Living with a Serial Killer. When Delia meets John Sweeney in 1991, she thinks she’s finally found the connection that’s missing in her life. His free-spiritedness eventually gives way to anger and manipulation, though, until she begins to fear for her life.
In Joan, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) plays real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington, who turns to a life of crime to build a better life for her and her young daughter. Rounding out the cast are Frank Dillane (Renegade Nell), who plays antique dealer Boisie and Kirsty J Curtis (Rise of the Footsoldier) as Joan’s sister Nancy. Gershwyn Eustache Junior (I May Destroy You) also appears as Albie, an old friend of Bosie’s enjoying a fresh start in Spain with wife Val (Laura Aikman, Breeders).
Other dramas announced include So Long, Marianne, which focusses on the romance between Leonard Cohen (Alex Wolff) and Marianne Ihlen (Thea Sofie Loch Næss). Mrs Davis is an Artificial Intelligence who Simone (Betty Gilpin, GLOW), a nun, has vowed to destroy.
DI Ray will be returning for a second series, starring Parminder Nagra (Blacklist) as the eponymous Leicester-born cop. When a notorious criminal is murdered, racial tensions threaten to spill over into a full-blown turf war. Can Rachita Ray keep the streets safe?
DC’s Doom Patrol will follow a band of unlikely superheroes who are roused into action by Cyborg (Joivan Wade, EastEnders).
All shows will be available on ITVX from October to December 2024. Playing Nice, Until I Kill You, Joan and DI Ray will also air on ITV1.
