Channel 4 are heading back to Hull for a second series of Hullraisers.
The announcement comes after the first series of Lucy Beaumont’s chaotic comedy celebrating northern working class women was widely acclaimed.
Centred on the tight-knit trio of Toni (Leah Brotherhead), Paula (Sinead Matthews) and Rana (Taj Atwal), Hullraisers explored their hilarious and agonising lives as they juggled work, kids, friendships and families. Series two will see them step into bright new chapters while they fight to keep everything the same.
Toni is in denial but her and Craig’s (Perry Fitzpatrick) second baby is on the way, Paula and Dane (Yanick Ghanty) are adapting to life as semi-empty nesters and Rana has been partnered up with an infuriating new colleague at work who will turn her world upside down in more ways than one.
Mother-in-law from hell, Gloria (Felicity Montagu), will also return to cause more havoc, but this time hiding secrets of her own, and Nima (Shobna Gulati) shares her tricks of the menopausal trade with Rana, who is all ears.
Executive Producers Faye Ward and Hannah Farrell from Fable Pictures said: “We’re chuffed to bits to be heading back to Hull for more adventures by the Humber… Our Hullraisers will be getting into bigger, wilder scrapes this time - we can’t wait to share what our brilliant writers are cooking up.
“We’re especially glad to be doing all this with our pals at Channel4 - there is truly no better home for a female working class comedy with masses of heart.”
The show was originally adapted for the UK by Lucy Beaumont from the Israeli hit comedy Little Mom. Anne-Marie O’Connor (Trollied) and Caroline Moran (Raised by Wolves) also write the series.
