The casting and first look image have been released for the second series of Channel 4 comedy Hullraisers.
The female-led series follows Toni (Leah Brotherhead), a mother and unsuccessful actress, and her assortment of friends as they struggle through life against the backdrop of Kingston upon Hull.
Tom Bennett (Brassic) and Sam Swainsbury (Mum) will be joining returning cast Leah Brotherhead (Zomboat), Sinead Matthews (Ideal), Taj Attawal (Memory), Perry Fitzpatrick (Without Sin), Yanick Ghanty (The Dumping Ground), Natalie Davies (Coronation Street), Felicity Montagu (Beyond Paradise) and Shobna Gulati (Dinnerladies).
Series one saw Toni celebrate her 32nd birthday, Rana (Atwal) discover meditation and Paula (Matthews) find that her relationship with her daughter is the strongest it’s been in some time – until the discovery of Toni’s recent scan disrupts all three women’s status quo.
In series two, Toni’s family is dealing with the looming arrival of baby number two, despite Toni’s state of denial. Paula must come to terms with her daughter, Ashley, growing up and moving away, and Rana realises that the menopause years might just be when she hits her peak.
Tom Bennett will play a new love interest for Gloria (Montague), and they seem to be perfect for each other despite the 15-year age gap. Sam Swainsbury will take the role of Rana’s new police partner Pickles, who at first appears to be her polar opposite.
Hannah Farrell and Faye Ward, the executive producers of Hullraisers, said, “We are so thrilled to be bringing back Hullraisers with Channel 4, adding some new exciting faces to our brilliant core cast.
“Alongside our award nominated trio of Leah Brotherhead, Sinead Matthews, and Taj Atwal, we welcome Tom Bennett and Sam Swainsbury, playing two brilliant new characters. We can’t wait for audiences to join us for another series of outrageous laughs and Hullian mayhem”.
Leah Brotherhead was nominated in Comedy Performance – Female for her role in Hullraisers at the RTS Programme Awards 2023.
The release date for series two of Hullraisers has not yet been announced, however series one is available to watch on iPlayer.
