The dystopian Channel 4 drama Humans has been recommissioned for a second series.

The show is set in an alternative present where Synths – robotic servants who eerily resemble humans – are a must-have household gadget. Over eight episodes, the science fiction drama has explored the consequences of artificial intelligence.

Humans has been the highest rated Channel 4 original drama in over 20 years with its debut launch in June garnering an audience total of 6.1 million.

Lead star Gemma Chan plays Anita, the human-looking synth and also features IT Crowd’s Katherine Parkinson.

Piers Wenger, Head of Drama at Channel 4 said; “Humans has proved a huge hit with both audiences and critics alike this summer.  It also marks a key moment for Channel 4 as we expand our remit for bold and original drama into the international, co-production space.”

The series, co- produced by Channel 4 and US network AMC, is based on Swedish drama, Real Humans

While its date is yet to be confirmed, we’re already holding our breath for more Synth-related adventures to come.
