Channel 4 has announced a new documentary series Girl Powered: The Spice Girls.
With hundreds of hours of archive footage and some revealing interviews, the series will tell the complete story of the best-selling girl band of all time.
From the RTS-Award winning team behind the documentary Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain, the series will look at the group’s transformation from first forming during the ‘ladette’ backdrop of the mid 90s through to their most recent world tour during the #MeToo movement.
Girl Powered: The Spice Girls will examine how the events and life stories of the five members of the Spice Girls echoed the evolution of modern feminism for a generation of women since their formation nearly thirty years ago.
Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor Documentaries, Alisa Pomeroy, commented: “The idea of using the story of the supremely popular and mould-breaking Spice Girls to make a multi-layered social history series was too good to pass up.”
