Dreaming Whilst Black, co-written and co-created by the RTS Award-winning Adjani Salmon, has been commissioned for another series by BBC Comedy.
Salmon (Chivalry) stars in the series as Kwabena, a recruiter with big dreams of being a filmmaker. Loosely inspired by Salmon’s life, Kwabena embarks on a series of opportunities trying to get his start in film, whilst also paying rent, dealing with love, and battling his own daydreams.
At the close of series one Kwabena’s aspirations seemed to finally be within grasp - a short film he premiered being well received by representatives from the film industry. However, when he shared this news with his family, an argument over intellectual property and the use of other people’s stories brought him crashing back down to earth.
Director of Comedy Commissioning at the BBC, Jon Petrie, says: "Dreaming Whilst Black really resonated with BBC viewers who felt the warmth and humour radiating from Adjani Salmon’s brilliant comic creation. It was a no brainer for us to press go again on this multi-award-winning series and we can’t wait to see more."
The comedy is produced as a creative collaboration between indie darling A24 and Big Deal Films for BBC Three.
Dhanny Joshi, Executive Producer of Big Deal Films, adds: "Dreaming Whilst Black season one struck a chord with audiences all over, offering a dose of relatable chaos, hard truths and laughs in between. We couldn't be more excited to go again and give the people what they want – a second season."
Filming for Dreaming Whilst Black series two will begin later in 2024, with no release date currently set.
