Is the NFL coming to the UK? Osi Umenyiora thinks so

Two-time Super Bowl winner Osi Umenyiora is on a mission to find a home for American Football in the UK.

After retiring from the sport after thirteen years as a player (most NFL careers typically lasting just three) Osi was in the right place at the right time. Discussions were taking place to take NFL around the world, with a view to putting roots down for an internationally recognised UK-based team.

Ant & Dec, Sir David Attenborough and Julie Walters among RTS Programme Awards nominations

At an event this morning, hosted by Countryfile’s Anita Rani, the nominees were announced, including National Treasure stars Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane for Actor (Female) and Actor (Male) respectively, TV duo Ant and Dec for Entertainment Performance, and Bake Off’s Nadiya Hussein for Breakthrough Award.

RTS Programme Awards 2017

The awards recognise programmes which have made a positive contribution to their genre through their originality, innovation or supremely high standard, and from which other programme makers can learn and develop. These criteria of originality, creative risk-taking and standard setting quality apply to the performance as well. 

This year sees some significant changes following discussions with judges and entering companies:

Peter Kay's Car Share returns to BBC iPlayer

The popular comedy is written by and stars Sian Gibson and Peter Kay as supermarket employees John and Kayleigh who found themselves thrown together as part of the company car share scheme.

Originally launching on BBC iPlayer in 2015, the series was a huge success, becoming the most watched new sitcom since 2011. It also won Best Scripted Comedy at the BAFTA Television Awards, while Peter Kay took home an award for Best Male Performance in a Comedy.

Reggie Yates: Worst Weeks

Reggie Yates: Worst Weeks comes fresh off the back of Reggie’s Best Presenter win at the RTS Programme Awards 2016.

He was, in fact, unable to attend the ceremony because he was filming one episode of the Worst Weeks series.

The two-part series will place Reggie in intense situations for one brutal week, asking questions from the inside.
